Seminars

Often while conducting a remote area medical or medical & dental clinic, we will deploy our foreign health care professionals to other hospitals, or medical colleges or universities to give medical update seminars for local doctors and nurses.

Sometimes we have the privilege of bringing in high level medical experts to hold seminars for the highest level medical university students and practicing doctors or nurses or other medical professionals.

Our seminar class attendance has ranged from 15 to 350 medical students or medical professionals. We often have worked together with the China Medical University, China Medical Association, Shenyang Medical College or various individual hospitals.

SHIC had the good pleasure of having Suzanne Boswell, MSN, PhD Candidate and Jeff Dill, RN (both from Tennessee, USA) come and conduct medical exchanges with three local hospitals in ShenYang.

The seminar topics covered:

• The End of Life Issues
• Hand Washing
• Therapeutic Play
• A Typical day of work for US Nurses

These seminars were held at: ShenZhou Hospital, Shen Yang city level Children’s Hospital and the Liaoning Traditional Medical Hospital.

The local Hospitals and nurses appreciated both Suzanne and Jeff coming to share their knowledge and experiences because they have very limited opportunity for seminars or exchanges with others. In the hospital they may often have medical seminars for the doctors but nursing education opportunities are much less frequent.  The nurses in China, like any nurse, work very hard and they warmly received the encouragement, interaction and support from Suzanne and Jeff.

The attendance at each of the hospitals averaged from 100 to 120 nurses.
