Community Development

One of our comunity development projects involved purchasing and setting up 45 yurts for Mongolian Shepherds whose yurts were dilapidated. Their culture and very existence had been threatened by extraordinarily bitter winters.
During two successive winters, literally millions of their flocks were frozen to death. Many sad stories abound there. The yurt project was 45,000 USD. We also delivered tons of white flour as a staple food item to help see them through difficult winters.
Another aspect of SHIC's community development work is the carpentry shop, where our carpenter, Mr. Tan a Chinese national, and Mark Waters, American volunteer, as manager, work to continue putting the carpentry shop to good use. The carpentry shop is used to build a wide assortment of objects for SHIC and ACA .
