MPHShenyang, China (August 21st, 2006)
TABLE OF CONTENTS The wheel chairs have been distributed to the orphanages. We still need to send the Guiyang chairs to them, via rail way. We will follow-up with visits to the orphanage. The Ministry of Civil Affairs says that they will plan this for us. Current Information of the Children (June, July and August) In general, the situation of the children in the last two months is relatively stable. Ying Zi had seven seizures since we have been taking care of her. We took her to No. 2 Hospital and had a CT scan and EKG and even though the results of both checks showed negative, the doctors still confirmed she has epilepsy. She was given a traditional Chinese medication and will have to have regular checks. Ying Zi had seven seizures since we have been taking care of her. Shen Ming Jie was brought to the Stomatological Hospital to do the surgery on his cleft lip since he was eligible to do it. It’s his third time to be sent there for this surgery. Unfortunately he was refused again because his white blood count was high. The doctor suggested to that we do it two months later. He is suspected to have cerebral palsy, which may be causing his high temperature. Shen Zhi Zhong who has cleft lip and palate was taken to Shenyang Stomotological Hospital and was refused surgery due to his bronchitis and high temperature. We will sponsor his surgery at the end of this August. Fu Xiao Ying, a little girl from Fuxin Orphanage is doing quite well, she has gained weight, and the CT scan showed she has hydrocephalus but not serious enough to do the surgery on it. So she will be sent back to Fuxin Orphanage. We received a new little boy, from our friend Dr. Peter, Shen Zhi Yue. He has pneumonia and cerebral palsy together with digestive hemorrhage. He has malnutrition at the same time, but his situation is not life threatening. He is receiving nutrients through tube feeding. He has gained a little weight and his hemorrhaging decreased. Li Shuang is doing much better, she can get out of the bed by herself. She practices very hard several times a day and has great progress in walking. She is able to walk very fast with crutches. Hopefully, she will be able to walk independently in the near future. Shen Ming Sheng, one of the twins who has down syndrome and congenital heart disease has had pneumonia several different times recently. He is prone to respiratory disease. We worry that he will possibly in danger when winter comes. He is growing very slowly Shen Zhi Zuo is a three-month-old boy; he had a surgery on his anal atresia. He is very underdeveloped. We sent two babies back to the orphanage this week. All of the other children remain as before, recovering well. We had a really nice luncheon for our Chinese staff last Friday. I was able to give them nice bonuses and sweet little gifts for each one of them. I made a thank you speech about each one, praising them for their wonderful qualities and describing how they bless our work, our organization and me. I think they really were blessed. They deserve to be. They have worked hard. 4. Village and Township Doctor Training Our follow-up training program for the doctors is a bit on hold. The health department has been busy with other projects in the area we are to go next. We will wait until their projects are finished Sincerely, Paula and Staff
