1. Township Doctor Training

Last Thursday evening was the graduation banquet for our doctors. It was really an amazing evening. We have already began planning our follow-up with them. We are excited about it. They are a wonderful family whom we look forward to visiting and working together with in the future.

2. Orphanes

Today we were privileged to take another group of orphans to dinner. This group lives with the music family. This family is teaching the children how to play musical instruments and sing. Also, all of our foster children came and their foster mom’s. Also ‘Little Swan’ from our hospital came. ‘Little Swan’ sang a song entitled “A Grateful Heart.’ Many of the other children stood and did the hand movements to accompany ‘Little Swan’.

3. Surgeries

Li Shuang or “Little Swan” will be taken to the No. 2 Hospital tomorrow to have Dr. Ji, head of the pediatric orthopedic department evaluate her regarding how to carry out the surgery. A simple tendon release is not going to be helpful. She will only end up with floppy feet. We need a re-constructive surgery. She needs to have her club feet straightened out.

4. Staff

We are in need of people to fill these Volunteer Positions:

1. A pediatrician for our hospital

2. A nurse for our hospital

*These two can help to take up the load so that or doctors and nurses can have days off.*

3. An administrator to take Valerie’s place as “Project
    Coordinator/Office Administrator”
4. A doctor to take up the position of “Medical Affairs Consultant-     Coordinator”

If you are interested in contributing to work, please email Susan Cloer or Virginia White. Please also see this link for others ways that you can volunteer.

Dr. Emmanuel Decker will return to China at the end of this week. He will be working with another organization, one of our dear friends. We are happy for this, although some parts are of course ‘bitter-sweet’. I personally will miss working directly with Emmanuel. However, I am confident that we will still have opportunity to cooperate in future projects. May he and Bridget be blessed as they continue working. We love them dearly.

5. X-Ray Machine On-off Switch

It once was lost. Now it is found!!!! Here is an excerpt from a note from the precious couple that donated the portable X-Ray machine: “We just arrived home from visiting our son, who is a periodontist in San Diego. We told him about our problem with the timing unit for the x-ray. He said he had an old x-ray (machine) in his office that he does not use, but didn't remember what brand it was. He suggested we go right down to the office (at night) and check it out. We did and it was a Philips, the same brand as the one donated. He took off the on/off switch and said we could have it. We called our dental supply man and described the unit to him, and he said it would work. In the meantime, our son had contacted his supply house in Minnesota, and they sent a manual for the x-ray. Now both items are ready to be packed and sent!
