1. Township Doctor Training

Tonight is our graduation banquet for our village and township doctors. They have worked very hard and the final exam was really difficult. They have all passed the exam, so tonight is celebration night.

We will work hard to continue in relationship with them by providing: equipment when possible and where needed; visiting their remote area hospitals to carry out random inspection of their patient reports (which was part of the contractual agreement for this training) to see that they are using the knowledge that they learned in this training (we will feed back stats to the funding agent, as per agreement, and to the medical University).

2. Foster Care

We will have another holiday party next week for the children in Foster Care. The Traders Hotel has agreed to let us bring the children for a lovely buffet. We don’t have to pay for the 19 children. We only have to pay for the adults. For the adults it will cost about $100. One of our partners ( a former staff member) has donated this amount. We love to see the children blessed.

3. Cataract Surgeries

Last evening all leaders from each level of the Red Cross gathered at Paula’s house for a meal of roast lamb. It was a wonderful evening and they all seemed to really enjoy themselves. We agreed with one of the top leaders to begin doing the cataract surgeries again. We will advertise for 200 children. We expect, now according to experience, that we will receive 20 applicants. We hope that this advertisement reach the children in remote areas who very much need this surgery. If we by chance received 200 applicants, it would cost $12,500 USD to pay for the surgeries. And as you can see, if we only do twenty, it will cost $1,250 USD.

4. Staff

We are in need of people to fill these Volunteer Positions:

1. A pediatrician for our hospital

2. A nurse for our hospital

*These two can help to take up the load so that or doctors and nurses can have days off.*

3. An administrator to take Valerie’s place as “Project
    Coordinator/Office Administrator”
4. A doctor to take up the position of “Medical Affairs Consultant-     Coordinator”

If you are interested in contributing to work, please email Susan Cloer or Virginia White. Please also see this link if you are interested in other volunteer work needed.

Dr. Emmanuel Decker will return to China at the end of this week. He will be working with another organization, one of our dear friends. We are happy for this, although some parts are of course ‘bitter-sweet’. I personally will miss working directly with Emmanuel. However, I am confident that we will still have opportunity to cooperate in future projects. May he and Bridget be blessed as they continue working. We love them dearly.

5. Orphanage Children

This last Tuesday, we took 24 of the orphanage children and 9 of their caregivers and drivers to the Traders for a beautiful meal. This is probably the best meal of the year for these kids. Cynthia organized it; she and one of our drivers and one of our teachers managed this special luncheon. The kids really enjoyed it and the Traders went above and beyond with decorations and games and even some special dishes that kids like. We are grateful to our former staff member and partner who donated the money for this.

6. X-Ray Machine

We want to contact the manufacturer to see if they might at least tell us how to make an on-off switch. The hospital could really use this piece of equipment. It was really a fluke that it got lost in the mail.

7. Surgeries

Li Shuang or ‘Little Swan’, the interpretation, will be able to have her surgery soon. We hope, that her presently club feet, will be straightened out sufficiently and that she will eventually be able to walk. This 15 year old girl longs to walk….NO! SHE LONGS TO DANCE!
