1. Township Doctor Training

The contracts are signed. One is with the Liaoning Arts Publication Association, where we rent a classroom for the TDT (Township Doctor's Training) doctors. One is with the hotel where the TDT doctors are going to stay for the three months training. The third contract signed is with the Shenyang Health Bureau.

On September 18, several of our staff traveled to Inner Mongolia to interview doctors for this coming TDT. Due to the average salary in this area being about $25 USD a month, you can imagine the sacrifice a doctor and his family would have to make to come to this training since they would be responsible for their own food and travel expenses to Shenyang. Because of this, only two township doctors signed up to come from this area. In order to encourage more doctors to come, we plan to scholarship some via donation to the Red Cross so that no other doctors think that SHIC should have scholarshipped everyone.

On September 21 and 22, SHIC staff interviewed the doctors from the outskirts of Shenyang. The number of doctors who came for the interview was far below our expectations.

So, to-date we are quite short of the needed number of doctors. Our commitment is to train 50 doctors at once, so we are hoping for all 50 doctors. Time is so short before the training begins. We have no desire to change our schedule, which is already set and involves many teachers. SHIC, CMU and SY Health Bureau are urgently making contacts with different places to obtain these additional doctors.

2. Hospital

Last Friday we had two children from our SHIC hospital in very serious condition--one was returned to the Orphanage after being evaluated at a local hospital and the other child died. We are saddened to report this, but we can do only our best. The other children are doing well and we hope to continue to provide loving care for them. We also hope they will recover and be in good health. Thank you for your uplifts for all these precious children.

The Friendship Hospital approved our proposal to them. So it looks as though we will be moving our SHIC hospital to this new facility. Much bigger, cleaner, closer to the SHIC office (yea!!) including more and better equipment. We are to sign the contract after the holiday.

3. Land Proposal

The Chinese version of this proposal is being printed professionally and assembled for delivery. We will take it to the relevant government offices after the one-week holiday.

4. Foster Children

On the weekend of National Day Holiday, we took the children out to the park and celebrated their monthly birthdays. We are pleased to say that each child had a wonderful experience.

6. Character First Training

A funding proposal for $3,960 to hold a three day training session for forty people including all of our office staff and hospital staff was completed and will be submitted to potential donors. We received a contract from Character First Business in China and it is under review. We will be signing it in the next couple of days. We hope we will find the right donor and in a timely manner and for wisdom as we review the contract.

7. Staff

And the two became one. We rejoice to share with you that Sunny (one of our accountants) and John David were married this past Saturday. They were so very happy on this their very special day. Sunny looked so beautiful in her wedding gown. Around 180 family and friends, including staff, witnessed this special occasion.

Our in-house computer expert, David, has been out of the office for around three weeks now. His father suffered a stroke, due to a blood clot in the brain. As far as we know there has been no permanent damage, such as paralysis. For this we are very thankful. He has had a recurring fever, which is being persistently stubborn. He does continue to improve though. David hopes to be back in the office Thursday afternoon. Please remember David also, as he needs much encouragement.

Sincerely,

Paula and Staff
